NLP – Neuro-Linguistic Programming

NLP is a form of applied psychology originally created by Dr. Richard Bandler who researched the work of successful psychiatrists in the 70’s & 80’s. He found that patients were not recovering from mental ill health except for those under the care of Dr. Milton Erickson and Dr. Virginia Satir, who were both pushing the boundaries and achieving positive results. He studied their methods and found a successful way of helping clients to change old patterns and habits and to create positive outcomes. The communication skills we all take for granted ( note how some people are brilliant at this and have the charisma and ability to communicate with and be understood by everyone), he researched in depth and Neuro Linguistic Programming came into being.

Different kinds of communication will influence us at different times and as all behaviour has a structure, and that structure can be modelled, learned, taught and changed ( re programmed) we can learn new types of communications and change our behaviours through neuro linguistic programming therapy. This can be achieved by the sense of curiosity and adventure and a desire to be able to find out how easily you can change unwanted behaviour.

The 3 elements of NLP are

Neuro: The central nervous system through which experience is received and processed through the five senses.
Linguistic: Language and non verbal communication systems through which neural representations are coded, ordered and given meaning.
Programming: The ability to organise our communication and neurological systems to achieve specific desired goals and results. A system that, once installed will reliably repeat. “ Dr Richard Bandler.
