About Dr. Pandit
Dr. Pandit originally trained as a medical doctor in the United States of America. She obtained her M.D, (medical doctor) degree from the University of Missouri in 1997. She went on to complete her residency training in Family Medicine at the University of South Florida Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg in 2000. She has held board certification in Family Medicine (2000-2016) and is currently licensed in the state of Florida.
She has practised and studied yoga in-depth since 2000 with teachers such as Kali Ray, John Friend, and Anna Forest. She has always felt attracted to Ayurveda as yoga’s sister science. In 2012 she moved to the UK with her family when the opportunity to study Ayurveda and make a career change presented itself. She completed the Ayurvedic Lifestyle and Nutritional Consultants course at the Ayurveda Institute in London in 2015 under Dr. Deepika Rodrigo. She then continued her studies at Ayurveda Sadhana in 2016 under Dr. Bharat Vaidya, completing Advanced Studies in Herbal Medicine (Nigantu).
In 2016 she started Amma Health in order to fulfil a life-time dream of practising Ayurveda based on a background of Western Medicine. Amma Health adapts the principles of Ayurveda and applies them to common modern health problems.
“After treating patients in an allopathic setting for more than 10 years, I recognized that often the root cause of modern disease is incorrect diet or lifestyle habits. I began to study and take interest in food as a basis of healing through self study and also through an internship at the Pritikin Longevity Center in Aventura, Florida. After researching different modern medical recommendation for achieving health, I found that advice often to be conflicting and produced short term gains that would later create more disease and imbalance.
This caused me to look outside of traditional medicine and at alternative systems of health. I was drawn to Ayurveda as a system of medicine that has lasted for thousands of years and whose consistent benefits are well known throughout the ages. My goal is not to replace your current medical doctor but rather to supplement and support your current medical regime so that improved the results can be obtained. I also may recommend some additional herbal supplements to aid in helping you make healthy lifestyle transitions.”
