My interest in complementary and alternative medicine began in my early twenties after I moved to Pembrokeshire and became interested in wild flowers and herbal remedies. I first started practising massage in the 1980’s just working from instructions in books and discovering that I had a natural talent and feel for it. I eventually became a student at the Tisserand Institute to gain a good training in clinical aromatherapy. I have since studied many different massage techniques including Indian Head Massage, Thai massage, Swedish massage, reflexology and some Tui Na. I gained a lot of experience of working with cancer patients as an aromatherapist at the Douglas Centre in Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup, Kent and helped to promote the reputation of therapists at the centre as a powerful support for conventional medical treatment. This came about from my own experience with my mother’s illness and subsequent death from cancer.
I have also had a long term interest in developing my own spiritual philosophy through the study of metaphysics, religions, personal growth and psychotherapy. I have had a lot of involvement with an organisation called Psychology of Vision which I have thoroughly enjoyed and has lead to firm friendships with people all over the world.
My knowledge and interest in complementary therapies lead to my appointment as manager of the Blackheath Complementary Health Centre in SE London. I also had a very busy and popular therapy practice based there.
I now live in Wiltshire after recently returning to the UK after 18 months of world travel with my partner, and have just begun a three and half year long degree course in acupuncture at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading.
